Conference program

conference workshops

Workshop 1 Freedom – Humanity – Spirit-Self ¬– Mario Matthijsen (Netherland) languages German/Russian
The book “Philosophy of Freedom” of Rudolf Steiner will be followed in its main issues with examples and exercises in observation and thinking. Special attention will given to thinking itself and coming to knowledge and to a free act (as the act of thinking itself is already such an act) which can bring an awareness of humanity and can be seen as leading to a development to the Spirit-Self of man, the transformation of the astral body through the work of the individual I. If possible more special topics could come in connection with the theme, such as about the Spirit-Self [with its connection to pure thinking, to moral fantasy, to Spirit-Self-culture, to the so called ‘Nebenubungen’ and other esoteric exercises from Rudolf Steiner, to the triad Astonishment - Sympathy (Love) - Conscience in relation to Truth - Beauty – Goodness] and/or about the foundation stone during the Christmas-conference at 1923/1924 and/or about the poem of Rudolf Steiner “Finsternis, Licht, Liebe” (darkness, light, love) and its social dimension.

Workshop 2 Life and Soul forces in Eurythmy ¬– Brigitte Schreckenbach (Germany) German/Russian

The basic course for eurythmists and everyone who is interested to participate

Workshop 3 Freedom and the Consciousness Soul: the Existential Riddle of the Western Mind ¬– Simon Blaxland-de Lange (United Kingdom) languages English/Russian This workshop will focus upon analyzing the raw experience underlying the Anglo-American notion of freedom in terms of its origin in the England of Shakespeare's and John Dowland's time and on interpreting it in the light of Owen Barfield's essay 'On the Consciousness Soul'. A specific endeavour will also be made to relate this notion of freedom to how it is understood in Central and Eastern Europe.

Workshop 4 Idea realism and reality of freedom ¬– Stephan Frei (Switzerland) languages German/Russian The most important problem of all human thought is thus: to conceive the human being grounded-upon-himself as free-personality’. The book ‚Truth and Science’ (‚Wahrheit und Wissenschaft’) from Rudolf Steiner, finishes with this sentence, which he regards as an introduction to a ’Philosophy of Spiritual Activity’ (‚Philosophie der Freiheit’). Since beginning the age of natural science (with Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, etc.) the formation of concepts and opinions began to orientate towards outer observation. This methodical way of advancing developed first of all on the world of physical-sense perceptions; the actual human activity coming thereby into question (knowledge, formation of concepts, scientific activity) remained first of all in the background. To emancipate ‚observation’ – as method – from the physical-sense world of perceptions and employ on the actual imperceptible to physical-sense human activity in ‚knowing’, is for knowledge of the human entelechy of decisive significance and is a preliminary requirement for the question regarding the autonomy, the freedom of man.

Workshop 5 Rudolf Steiner’s Philosophy of Freedom as a seed for Anthroposophy ¬– Karl-Friedrich Sprich (Switzerland) languages German/Russian
All true philosophy is based on the generation and observation of pure thought forms. Thinking can be experienced as an independent evidence-based self- organism containing all individual thought in itself.
All true natural science is a progression from phenomenon to archetypal phenomenon. The key to understanding the human being essence lies on the way by which thinking and phenomenon (perceptions) are united in concept. The free human action is built on this constitution.
Thinking that went through controversy with science and his own development, subjected to purification by means of the theory of knowledge of Rudolf Steiner, metamorphoses into a spiritual sense organ. Metamorphosed thinking can strengthen the essence of the soul so much that soul can not only experience the thoughts in her consciousness, but also perceive beings. This allows it to come safely into elementary and spiritual worlds. We will try, by observing ourselves, to define key features of these thoughts and to find a path leading from the philosophy to anthroposophy.

Workshop 6 The Individual Human and the Universal Spirit in Steiner and Hegel ¬– Terje Stefan Sparby (Norway) languages English/German
This topic will be discussed in particular in relation to how individualization implies growing into the universal world of spirit. Steiner admitted in a letter to Hartmann that he hadn't been able to solve the problem of the relationship between individual and universal consciousness in his Philosophy of Freedom. In anthroposophy there is a complex relationship between the individual and the universal that makes some progress on this topic.
